WordPress is an open source platform which is free for everyone to use, for the creation of any kind of blog or website.
There are two kinds of WordPress platforms that are available for your use:
- One that is completely free and remotely hosted - meaning that you can set up a blog without spending any money for anything related to your blog. This version is hosted by WordPress.com and you will usually have a domain that reads like this: www.yourdomainname.wordpress.com
- The second way you can use a WordPress blog is to host it yourself. This is the way that I recommend since it will give you complete control over how you use and set up your blog or site. For example, instead of the inclusion of wordpress as a part of your domain name, you will have the ability to use just the domain name you have selected: www.yourdomainname.com.
Additionally, you can create a self-hosted WordPress blog and have it integrated into your HTML website, which is the format that Your WordPress Diva currently uses. In other words, my site uses both HTML pages created using Dreamweaver, which is linked to my blog, a self-hosted WordPress site.
Since it’s beginning in 2003, WordPress has become the largest self-hosted blogging platform and it continues to get better and better! WordPress and independent developers (developers not directly related to WordPress) create new wordpress tools (called plugins) on a daily basis. These applications make it easy for anyone using WordPress to enhance their WordPress blog/site. Go here to read more about Installing WordPress
